My name is Simon Hill and I am an Independent Reviewer and Overview report writer. In that role I have chaired numerous Domestic Homicide Reviews (DHRs) and Safeguarding Adult Reviews (SARs)  over the last four years.  As a police officer, I served as a Child Protection supervisor for West Midlands Police (WMP),  working in  Public Protection. For four years I supervised the HQ Public Protection Unit Review Team with a number of detectives writing all WMP Individual Management Reviews (IMRs). 

 

I have always believed that Reviews need not only to explain "Why?" a tragedy occurred, but find innovative ways of embedding change in organisational cultures and individual practice. I have had the privilege of running workshops with hundreds of frontline professionals                ( including many who were personally involved in cases subject to DHRs and SCRs). If Learning Events illustrate effectively why things happened, professionals can far more easily identify how to improve their own practice. 

 

I now work with my wife, Sonya Hill who also served with West Midlands Police for 30 years. As well as having an investigative background, she worked in  Domestic Violence and Child Protection. For the last 10 years, she managed a ground-breaking partnership with The Prince's Trust working with young offenders and the most disadvantaged people, managing their safeguarding needs and positive progression routes. A recognition by the service of the need to take a 'Whole Family' approach to safeguarding and crime prevention. Her contribution was recognised when she received an MBE for Services to Policing and Young People in 2014.

 

We are both qualified and experienced adult trainers and Sonya is a  qualified assessor.  We understand the need for Adult and Child Safeguarding courses that meet the requirements of set professional competencies.
