Independent Reviewing

I have experience of conducting DHRs across the West Midlands region, but am available to Chair/write the Overview report for Community Safety Partnerships anywhere in England or Wales.

My experience of conducting both major child protection enquiries and dealing with domestic abuse in Public Protection, has meant I have a detailed understanding of both adult and child protection safeguarding. In both my reviewing and professional training, I stress the need to ensure that safeguarding work recognises the needs of both children and victims of domestic abuse and that it is crucial that any inter-agency  work  addresses those needs in a 'Whole Family' approach.

I believe that the Chair should ensure that the families and friends of victims play a central part in any DHR, contributing to the Terms of Reference and where possible attending panels. I have worked successfully with Advocacy After Fatal Domestic Abuse (AAFDA) on a number of Reviews.

My experience has shown me that involving key professionals in the DHR process has a positive impact for the professionals and their agencies. I have used Learning Events in most of my DHRs and SARs and my debriefing skills from Police training have ensured they remained about learning not blame .Although not mandated in Home Office Guidance, I believe that they should always be considered by the Panel.
